6+ months!

Can you believe it is almost February? This month has gone by so fast! I can’t believe our little girl is already 6 months, almost 7 months old.

There have been a lot of changes in our household since the Christmas holiday. The husband recently quit his job and is now a full-time student. In addition to that already full load he is working part-time as a research assistant on campus. Needless to say he has a very full plate trying to juggle family, school, work, and everything else that happens on a daily basis. I’m busier than ever at work. 45-50 hour work weeks are the norm for me. I’ve always been a bit of a work horse though, so it really isn’t nothing new.

Alison is still enjoying spending the days with her cousin Mason. The upside of working so much is knowing that she is with family that watches of her as if she is their own. She is learning to become a tough cookie – due to Mason’s energetic nature that sometimes ends up with her having bruises – or even a bite mark on her forehead!

Alison has had a busy month of progress. At her 6 month appointment we learned she is in the 90th percentile for her head circumference (44cm), height (27 ½ inches), and the 85th percentile for her weight (18 pounds). The doctor indicated she thinks she is going to get her height from Donavon and not me. Also, her weight should even out as she starts to crawl.

Speaking of crawling – she is doing it! She started to officially crawl last night. It isn’t pretty, or graceful, yet but she can get around the room if you give her enough time and motivation. This weekend we will be spent baby proofing the playroom for her. In addition to crawling she is babbling up a storm, saying ‘da da da’ all the time. She falls asleep saying it and wakes up saying it. She also LOVES to try to untie things – shoe laces, the knots tieing her bumper to the crib. Frequently we will go in to check on her in the night and find she is awake, with her face pressed up against the crib bars as she is struggling to untie the bumper knots. She is showing a persistent nature, as she doesn’t stop until she gets it done.

Alison has also mastered peak-a-boo. She loves when you play it with her but she also like to initiate it. Give her a blanket and she will try to cover her face and then pull it down. She gets a kick out of playing it with the animals on her mobile. She plays peek-a-boo as they move above her head and she giggles and giggles and giggles.

On Christmas day we started Alison on foods. She has now eaten zucchini, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, peas, carrots and green beans. I’ve made ½ of it myself and plan on making as much as I can for her. We have the go ahead to start to feed her food twice a day, plus rice cereal for dinner. I’m excited to start branching out to different types of veggies. We are holding off on fruits until she gets a solid taste, and liking, for veggies. I hear once you switch to fruits all they want is the sweet stuff.
